The Church is no place for comic relief.

Even as believers, it's important that we sometimes take breaks from all our serious activities and whatnot and unwind, but the church is not a platform for comedians.

I often see posters of comedy programs that are scheduled to hold in a church and I wonder how and why we got here. We craze creativity in the church to the extent that we invite comedians and clowns to bemuse us. In a bid to be hilarious and wow the crowd (or congregation) in a language and terms they can relate to, these comedians go as far as saying some sacrilegious stuff to the amusement of the audience.

They say obscene stuff about our Lord, patriarchs, scripture, mode of worship or heroes of our faith just to create comic relief yet we laugh like drunkards instead of rebuking them.

Not that I'm against comedians or their crafts, Nope. I fancy their creative acumen and I must confess it's not easy to crack a joke and get people laughing. Comedians are unsung heroes but the pulpit shouldn't be allotted to them as a platform, they should come and worship God in spirit and truth, edify and be edified, learn the WORD, take instructions and nothing else.

The Church is a place of taking instructions, Prayer, learning of the word, and fellowship with the brethren and not some pub or social club where we come to laugh at spiritual stuff.

Can a believer be a comedian?
Yes
Can a believer attend a comedy show?
Yes! why not?
I've paid to attend a few and I did enjoy the laughs and performances. Comedy is entertaining but it never edifying and glorifying.

How stupid of us when someone makes jests about our Lord and we open our mouths waaaa laughing 😭

Taking comedy shows to Church is like cooking in the bathroom,  the place is inappropriate, no matter how clean or fancy. Don't import what you didn't see the disciples do in the scripture into the Ekklesia.

Finally, we don't need a Bachelor's Degree in Theology to identify Apostasy.

"For we are not ignorant of the devices of Satan...."
